The Simplicity of Follow Up!

In network marketing, follow-up is of utmost importance. Not only must we keep “doing the thing” the main thing (i.e. getting the appointments) but then, taking seriously the critical nature of follow up. We really can’t build a business without proper follow up, because this is process. Think back to how you got into the business. Did your sponsor tell you about the company, then, you were like, “Yes! Get me on Auto Ship! Oh, and throw in one of those $1,000 Fast track thingies while you’re at it.” LOL! I don’t think so! You probably went home, checked out some links, thought about it, and perhaps your sponsor sent or gave you some samples. Maybe you lost the samples, and they had to send them to you again. Eventually, your sponsor probably called you to ask you if you enjoyed the product, and asked you to make a decision to join them in their biz. Whatever the procedure, it was a process. Statistics show it takes an average of 6-8 follow ups to sign up one distributor. That illustrates just how VITAL it is to… FOLLOW UP!

Now, there are all kinds of fancy shmancy constant contact features, reminder do-hickies and cutting-edge web applications online. Now, that’s fine-whatever you like, day planner, Blackberry, it doesn’t matter. You might even go with the ol’ tried and true index card in a black box method. Awesome! This is the one area of our biz that we really need to individualize and do what works for us.

For me, what works, is so simple, you’ll probably laugh. But here goes. I have a word document, and on it, I have four headings, like so:

Just Talked or Emailed

Sent Links

Sent or Gave Samples

Bought a Box

Then, under each category, I put the person’s name and phone number. I also take notes as to what we talked about and if they moved from talking to buying a box, well, I move them to that heading, and put down a date that I tell them I’m going to follow up with them. Then, I write it in my day planner. If I sent them samples and they haven’t tried them yet, I tell them to try them (and exactly how) and check in with them in a couple of days, remembering to also put that in my day planner like so: Call Chantaye at 2pm. I make it as specific as possible, because that is how I would run a professional business. If we want to make it to that 6 figure income, we have to take this follow up thing seriously!

Don’t be afraid to pick up the phone and follow up. You might mistakenly be waiting for a prospect to call you back. But guess what? It ain’t going to happen. Why? I’m not sure. But all I know is that it is up to us to follow up. It’s simple to do, but just as easy NOT to do. Without action, we got nada. So, definitely follow up
