Should I Pick a Career Based on Money Or Passion?
The age old question: Can I find a career I love that pays well? A quote by Koyal Guha in India speaks for many I feel, he was quoted in Economic Times saying “It is foolhardy to chase an ephemeral dream. Job satisfaction is not a constant concept. Hard cash is an assured, while pursuing happiness is usually just a pipe dream,”, a common belief by many. Its unfortunate too because with a little creativity, one can achieve a job promotion or transform their current position into one that is essential and invaluable. Yes, it takes work, a little time and some ingenuity.
Take a common accounting position within a small to medium size business. There are a myriad of ways an accounting employee could create a position so valuable that they would not have to go elsewhere for a raise and promotion. For example, businesses often hire outside consultants to perform audits, trouble shoot cash flow, help the company to acquire growth capital etc so as an employee, you have the opportunity to save the company money, time, and possible headaches by providing the information or services yourself. As soon as you can, start noticing everything the company is spending money on, within your department anyway, that you could learn to do yourself. Talk to other people who are in a like position and find out how they are saving their company money, time, headaches. Once you do a little digging, you are sure to find something. Small to medium sized businesses do not have the time, money and personnel to do everything they could be which leaves the opportunity door wide open.
Many employees don’t consider promoting themselves but should. Creating PR by becoming an expert resource for reporters, magazines and other news sources will give you an edge over everyone else who doesn’t. Make sure you can back up your claim to knowledge by knowing your material AND the resources it came from. Research your area of expertise weekly and compile a journal to pull information from. There are many sources on the Internet looking for experts such as “Help a Report” who email requests for expert information on a daily basis.
Other methods of self promotion include:
1. Website that highlights your professional backgrounds, testimonials and good things you’ve done in your community.
2. A blog that discusses opinions, knowledge, ideas about the industry you are in. Be careful to write your opinions in such a way that they don’t appear derogatory or anti-industry.
3. Find opportunities to get in front of people such as participating in panels at industry conferences.
4. Learn, learn, learn. Make a commitment to take 1 class every 6 months or more.
5. Unfortunately, a lot of business still takes place on the golf course according to Forbes but connecting with your CEO may occur in many different places or on the Internet. If they have a blog, get interested in it. http://bit.ly/b9qH8J
To summarize – listen, ask, and learn. Whether you are pursuing a job promotion or increasing the value in your current job position, get passionate about it. Its up to you to MAKE management see your professional value not theirs.

On the site credit-online.biz you will find a few reasons why you should invest in the money market mutual funds. Money market mutual funds rates are usually rather modest. But taking into account that they are rather safe and liquid, they are a good way to store money before you find a good place to invest them to.
